Its highest point is Boggy Peak (1319 ft.), located in the south-western corner of the island. Barbuda, a flat coral island with an area of only 68 square miles, lies approximately 30 miles due north. Also included is the  the tiny (0.6 square mile) uninhabited island of Redonda, now a nature preserve. The current population f(2003) stands at over 68,000 and the capital is St. John's on Antigua.

Antigua's diverse nature from the now peaceful dockyard to the violent surf of Devil's Bridge

The islands of Antigua and Barbuda became an independent state within the British Commonwealth of Nations in 1981. More than 3,000 refugees fleeing a volcanic eruption on nearby Montserrat have settled in Antigua and Barbuda since 1995.
It is divide into 6 parishes; Saint George, Saint John, Saint Mary, Saint Paul, Saint Peter and Saint Philip.

As ever on our trips though the Islands, the warmth and friendliness of the people shine through

Although not as lush as St. Lucia or Grenada,  the temperate weather and golden sands make Antigua one of the most popular Caribbean destinations and it is an excellent place for water-sports enthusiasts, and especially sailing.

Antigua's gently undulating dry interior is bordered by a much indented coastline giving - it is claimed to have 365 beaches, one for every day of the year.

So many beaches means plenty of sunsets. These were from Jolly Harbour, Deep Bay and Coco Beach

Temperatures generally range from the mid-seventies in the winter to the mid-eighties in the summer. Annual rainfall averages only 45 inches, making it the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands, and the northeast trade winds are nearly constant, flagging only in September. Low humidity year-round.
Not a lot happens outside the hotels, so if you are looking for a lively time choose accordingly.
